When it comes to keeping our pool in perfect condition, the pool pump plays a fundamental role. However, many people overlook the importance of choosing the right pump and, above all, are unaware of the savings they might be missing out on. Did you know that by changing the speed, you also change the savings ? That’s why variable-speed pool pumps are an excellent option that has been gaining popularity lately. In fact, they have been mandatory in the US since July 2021 and will be gradually implemented in the European Union in the coming years to achieve greater energy efficiency. Without further ado, in this article we will explore the advantages of a variable-speed pool pump for saving energy and money in the long run. Let’s get started!
What is the best type of filter for public or community swimming pools?
Maintaining a public or community swimming pool in good condition requires constant attention, as the water’s hygiene and quality must be guaranteed at all times. One of the most important aspects of pool cleaning and maintenance is choosing the right filter . Selecting the correct filter can be a bit overwhelming, as there are several types available on the market. In this article, we’ll discuss the three main types of pool filters : sand filters, cartridge filters, and diatomaceous earth filters, and help you determine which is the best type of filter for public or community pools .
Salt chlorination: disinfecting the pool in a more natural way
When we think about how to disinfect and clean a swimming pool , the first thing that comes to mind is using chlorine or bromine . And that’s normal, as these are among the most traditional methods that have been used for a long time. However, it’s well known that these chemicals can cause reactions in some people, especially skin and eye irritation. But what if we told you there are better and equally effective alternatives to the traditional methods? Or that it’s possible to say goodbye to chemical chlorine and its consequences? The answer is saline chlorination . Keep reading if you want to discover more details and learn about the advantages of disinfecting your pool in a more natural way !
How to clean your pool when it rains mud
As the saying goes, April showers bring May flowers. And it’s true that the storms haven’t just left us with water; they’ve also left our pools full of mud and dirt . Rainwater can be an enemy of our pools on its own, but if it comes with mud, the problem is compounded.
How much does a heated swimming pool cost?
The warmer months fly by, and it’s a shame when the cold weather arrives and it’s time to say goodbye to your pool and put it away for the winter, ready for next season. But what if you could enjoy your pool even more than just in summer? And what if we told you it wouldn’t break the bank? If you decided to invest in an outdoor pool, you should know that for a little extra, you can enjoy it beyond July and August: heat it and swim twice as long with minimal energy costs!
Keep your children and pets safe in the pool
One of the biggest concerns for families with young children, pets, and swimming pools is pool safety . Often, out of fear that a child might fall into the pool and we won’t be there to prevent drowning, we don’t let our children and pets roam freely in the garden, since a moment’s inattention is all it takes for an accident to happen. You’re not the only one with this problem, which is why there are several security options on the market to prevent our fears from becoming reality. These options range from simple solutions like a fence to more sophisticated devices with motion sensors, such as pool alarms. Here’s a summary of the options: Fences: You know, wooden, metal… There are many types and they can improve the look of your garden if you choose decorative ones. Covers : Another traditional system that offers many water conservation benefits, in addition to the security we seek. There are many types available; undoubtedly the most convenient is the automatic roll-up cover. Anti-drowning bracelets: In this case, we’re talking about an alternative useful only for humans. It’s a comfortable and durable bracelet that alerts us when the wearer falls into the water, allowing us to react. There are also several types of pool alarms: Pool access door alarm: This can help, but it shouldn’t be considered the only safety measure. It’s a magnetic sensor that’s placed on the door and activates when it’s opened. Perimeter alarm: It consists of a set of sensors that are placed around the pool, forming a perimeter that, if crossed, activates the alarm. Floating sensors: Motion detectors that detect objects underwater. This method is somewhat expensive compared to others. We believe installing these safety systems is essential because accidents can happen in seconds, and no matter how vigilant we are, something unexpected can occur. Furthermore, a child only needs a few centimeters of water to drown. Find the system that best suits your needs and gain peace of mind.
Reinforced membrane: the benefits of the most commonly used pool lining.
The reinforced membrane consists of a polyester mesh covered by two resistant and elastic plastic (PVC) layers. This composition makes it one of the best options for pool lining . It is a durable, elastic, highly insulating material with numerous possibilities, a very long lifespan, and minimal maintenance requirements. For the reinforced membrane to provide its full watertight capacity, it must be installed by professionals. Because it is heat-welded, it can be shaped to virtually any form. Whatever your pool’s design, it will fit perfectly. Furthermore, it is available in a wide variety of colors and textures: design and insulating effectiveness go hand in hand. The reinforced membrane is resistant to UV rays and is so robust that it even withstands the chemicals commonly used for water cleaning and disinfection, as well as microorganisms. It will not show any visual deterioration over time, and its waterproofing properties are not weakened by temperature fluctuations between day and night or by seasonal changes. It’s the most common lining method used for newly built pools, but it’s also ideal and highly sought after for renovations . It doesn’t matter what material was there before the renovation: mosaic tiles, concrete, liner, etc. It’s perfect and quick; the replacement is completed in 1 to 3 days , and you can fill the pool within minutes! If you’re wondering which material would be best for lining your pool, look no further—you’ll save time and money. Forget about maintenance, wear and tear, leaks… Plus, it’s quick and easy to clean. What chlorine level should we maintain in autumn/winter?
If we decide to keep our summer pool water during the summer , to save money and be more environmentally friendly, it is important to know what chlorine level we should maintain in the off-season. At first glance, you might think the chlorine level should be higher than in summer, since the water needs to stay clean for a long time… but that’s not the case. We’ll reveal the ideal chlorine level for your pool. We must keep in mind that during this time of year, autumn/winter, it’s common and advisable to install a pool cover to protect the water. High chlorine levels can damage the cover’s surface and the material it’s made of. Furthermore, during this period, people don’t usually have much contact with the water, so less activity means less chemical maintenance. The ideal chlorine level is between 1 and 3 ppm . As soon as warmer weather arrives, prepare your pool for the new season and return to the normal recommended levels. You’ll have extended the life of your pool water , saved money , and reduced environmental pollution. As always, we’ll be happy to answer any questions or queries you may have. With these 3 steps, you won’t need to empty your pool in winter.
A question that often arises when swimming season ends and the cold weather arrives is whether or not to drain our pool . We all want to save water, but sometimes we don’t know how to keep it clean and free of organisms like algae or other creatures. At Reindesa, we want to tell you how. There’s a technique called winterizing that extends the life of your pool water. This means you won’t need to drain it in winter: you can keep the water clean throughout the fall and winter to use the following summer. Want to save money and help the planet? Follow these steps: 1- Cleaning the glass: clean the walls and the bottom. We can use robots, which are very useful for saving time. 2- Water treatment: Through a series of processes, chemicals, and careful measures, the formation of fungi, algae, bacteria, and other harmful agents is prevented. The complete process is detailed in this post . 3- Installing and maintaining a pool cover: This prevents leaves and other debris from falling into your pool and dirtying the water. It also provides safety for children and pets. Here we explain the different types of pool covers available. And voilà! Once the 3 steps are completed, we will have avoided emptying the pool in winter and prepared it so that it is perfect and crystal clear for the next season. Do you have any questions? What type of filter is best for the pool?
You may never have thought about it, but it’s a key decision for the future of your pool. The filter you choose for your pool is very important, as the water quality depends on it. The operation of a pool filter or purifier is quite simple, going through three phases. Suction. At the beginning of the process, the water is drawn in by the skimmer and transported to the tank. Filtration. The water passes through the filter where impurities are separated. Return. Clean water is returned to the pool. There are several types on the market, and below we will see the main ones: – Sand filters. The tank of this type of filter or purifier is made of silica sand, which filters the water. They are a favorite for many because they require almost no maintenance, and the filter can last up to 7 years, although it is advisable to change it every 4 or 5 years. Currently, in addition to silica sand, other media are also used, such as activated glass, which we have discussed previously. – Cartridge filters. This type of filter requires more maintenance since it uses replaceable filters, which last between 6 and 12 months and must be cleaned at least once a week to remain effective. They tend to lose filtering power over time. They are considered the ideal filter for polyester and/or above-ground pools. – Diatomaceous earth filters. Composed of fossilized microscopic organisms that filter water. They are capable of trapping even the tiniest particles of dirt with great efficiency. They even remove oils and sunscreens. They are the most effective and recommended for large swimming pools. For greater efficiency and better maintenance of larger, more expensive filters, there are air blower pumps for filter backwashing. These will extend the life of your filter and ensure optimal performance. Now you know about the main types of filters available. Consider your pool’s characteristics and your preferences, and choose the one that’s right for you. Have questions and need our help? Come visit us or contact us for a free consultation.

Whitish stains on the walls and background. Reindesa Solutions (VII)
We often think that using the right cleaning products will keep our pool in perfect condition. And that’s true, but excessive or incorrect use of these products can often cause different types of stains , such as the one we’re going to discuss today: whitish stains on the walls and bottom of the pool. As with everything, there’s a reason and a solution. In this case , the most common cause is the buildup of limescale deposits , so we’re going to explain, step by step, how to get rid of those stains and get your pool back in perfect condition. How are we going to solve this? We lowered the pH to 6.5 with PH – ACID POOL REINDESA We perform an anti-limescale treatment: 1 liter per 10m3 of ANTI CAL REINDESA We cleaned the walls and bottom of the pool to get rid of the stains that had already formed. We left the filtration system running for 24 hours. We increase the pH to 7.2 with PH + SODIC POOL REINDESA Finally, we checked the water balance (TAC, TH and pH) This should completely remove the whitish stains on the walls and background. However, if the treatment is ineffective, it means the stains are deeply ingrained, so we should try again as follows: We emptied the pool to clean it properly with DESINCRUS REIN We filled the pool while performing a water quality test (TAC, TH and pH) And finally, we will use ANTICAL REINDESA as a preventative measure And that’s it! It might seem like a tedious solution, but with a little dedication, we’ll have our pool working perfectly again, free of any whitish stains on the walls or bottom. And don’t forget, if you need help, you can contact your nearest Reindesa store and we’ll be happy to assist you personally.
Greenish water, with green, brown, or black stains. Reindesa Solutions (VI)
We’re back with another blog post to help you solve any problems that might arise in your pool. Today we’ll be discussing greenish water, with green, brown, or black stains . Don’t panic, the problem is algae. Yes, the presence of algae in the water is what causes our pool water to turn greenish, with green, brown, or even black spots . To solve the problem, a superficial cleaning won’t be enough; we’ll need to do a deep clean to remove the stains and the greenish tint to the water. How? First, we’ll check the stabilizer level in the water (you can use stabilizer test strips). If the value is higher than 75 mg/l, we’ll drain some of the pool water. Next, we will verify that the pH level of the water is controlled at 7.0 and level it with Reindesa PH + Sodic Pool or Reindesa PH- Acid Pool . And we checked the chlorine level: If it’s correct: we put the filtration on 24 hours for two days, frequently cleaning the walls. If it is low on chlorine: we will perform a shock treatment with Rein Granudalo Chlorine . Once the pool is stabilized, we will use the specific concentrated algaecide for each type of algae , which will be recommended to you at any Reindesa store . Maintaining water quality is our responsibility as pool owners to ensure it stays in good condition and prevents it from turning green or developing spots . And remember, if you need expert advice, you can find us at your nearest Reindesa store .

The Self-Monitoring Plan for Public Swimming Pools You Should Know
We want to keep you informed of all the latest developments and regulations in the swimming pool sector. Therefore, it is vitally important that you are familiar with the Self-Monitoring Plan for public swimming pools, which outlines the new technical and health standards for swimming pools in Spain established with the entry into force of Royal Decree 742/2013 of September 27 . The Decree is based on the obligation to carry out a Self-Control Protocol for Swimming Pools for those swimming pools for collective use . But let’s detail, in 8 points, everything that this Decree entails. What does it consist of? Decree 742/2013 states that the owners of the facilities must provide the appropriate means and personnel to guarantee the safety of users from possible physical, chemical or microbiological risks , and carry out the tasks of Self-monitoring of health risks associated with the different activities that may be carried out. What type of swimming pools are required to implement the Self-Monitoring Protocol? Type 1. Swimming pools where water-related activity is the main objective, such as public swimming pools, leisure pools, water parks or spas. Type 2. Swimming pools that act as a supplementary service to the main objective, such as in the case of hotel pools, tourist accommodations, campsites or therapeutic pools in health centers, among others. What should the Self-Monitoring Plan for swimming pools include? According to article 95/2000 of February 22, the Self-Control system must include at least the following plans: A water treatment plan for the pools that must include the cost of the product or products used, the safety data sheets for these products, the method of application, and the controls carried out to ensure the water characteristics indicated in articles 19 and 20 of the decree. Planning the microbiological water analyses necessary to determine its sanitary conditions. Cleaning and disinfection plan for the facilities. Rodent and insect control plan with the necessary safety precautions to avoid risks to pool users. In indoor swimming pools, a cleaning and maintenance plan for the ventilation and heating system that involves control of temperature and ambient humidity. Can sanctions be imposed? Failure to comply with the obligations of the Decree may result in various types of sanctions: financial penalties, temporary closure, or even denial of the opening of summer swimming pools. How does Reindesa work with this regulation? According to this Decree, public swimming pools must have a self-monitoring system to guarantee proper management and adherence to good hygiene and sanitation practices . This document is complex, and facility owners often hire external companies to facilitate the management of this documentation. This is not new, as hotels and campsites subcontract pest control to rodent control companies, and the cleaning and disinfection self-monitoring is usually carried out and supervised by the subcontracted cleaning company; occupational risk management is handled by the management company. Since October 2013, Reindesa has offered to perform this task, preparing the mandatory documentation that the facility owner must submit in the event of an inspection . What do we do? A Reindesa technician is responsible for conducting an evaluation visit of the facilities and a review of the necessary documentation . We develop the Self-Monitoring Plan for swimming pools and deliver it along with the corresponding information on: how it works, what lists the client must make and how to make them. A Reindesa technician makes a monthly visit to perform preventive maintenance on the facilities. Once again, a Reindesa technician will make a semi-annual visit to supervise the management of the documentation and the value of the results. What Reindesa’s work does not include are microbiological analyses (although we can manage water collection and delivery to the laboratory) or repairs resulting from deficiencies detected by our technician, but you can request it and we will give you a no-obligation, customized quote. What guarantees are there that the work will be done well? Since the regulations came into force, Reindesa has accompanied its clients in different inspections by the Department of Health of the Girona Provincial Council and by the Barcelona Provincial Council, with very favorable results . What is the budget that Reindesa offers for the Self-Control plan? 1st POOL (monthly fee) FROM THE 2ND POOL ONWARDS (monthly fee) FOR POOLS OPEN ALL YEAR ROUND €120.00 €60.00 FOR SUMMER POOLS €180.00 €90.00 *VAT not included If you still have any questions about the Self-Monitoring Plan for Public Swimming Pools, don’t hesitate to contact your nearest Reindesa store , either by visiting us or calling us, and we will assist you personally.
When your pool has orange or brown rust stains. Reindesa Solutions (IV)
As pool lovers, there are times when we need to pay attention to the subtle changes we observe in the water. If this time the problem is that your pool water has orange or brown rust stains , this post is for you. You’re probably wondering what happened? And while it might surprise you, it’s a recurring problem. Orange or brown stains are due to the presence of metal oxides in the water (mainly iron and manganese, as well as copper and/or tannins), and often this is because the water used to fill the pool is well water. All these minerals oxidize when they come into contact with the disinfectant used in the pool. What should we do? Ensure that the levels of disinfectant used are at 0 ppm before applying the product. Use a METAL SEQUESTER : 1kg of MULTI STAIN REMOVER per 50m3 Apply directly to the stained area or distribute it around the perimeter of the pool. If the pool is made of liner, reinforced membrane, or fiberglass , DO NOT POUR directly. Place the product inside a cloth bag and suspend it with a string as close as possible to the stain. It is important to wash the filter and let the filtration run for 24 hours until you get clear, clean water. And now you have a pool ready for a splash, without any color stains! Remember, if you still have any questions or the problem persists, you can visit us at any of our Reindesa stores and we’ll help you with personalized service.
Are there stains on the waterline of your pool? Reindesa Solutions (III)
Spring is just around the corner, bringing with it warmer weather and unexpected dips in the pool. So, it’s time to get to work and check the condition of our swimming pools. What might happen? We might find the water cloudy or greenish at the waterline when we go for a swim. While this can be unpleasant, it’s a common occurrence when we stop using the pool and don’t maintain it regularly. The reason this happens is that the waterline is more prone to limescale, grease, and algae deposits , and for that reason, it’s the part that contains the most dirt. But, as always, there’s an easy solution: The first thing we’ll do is check the stabilizer level in the water. You can use stabilizer test strips that are placed in the water. If the value is above 75 mg/l, drain some of the pool water. Or, visit any Reindesa store to have your water parameters analyzed. Next, we verify that the pH level of the water is controlled at 7.4. If not, you can adjust it with PH+ Sodic Pool Reindesa or PH- Acid Pool Reindesa . We will perform a shock treatment with a specific coagulant for oils and fats. We put the system into continuous filtration 24 hours a day for two days. We clean the stains at the waterline (also known as the waterline) with a specific cleaner. If the problem persists, we will try a shock treatment with granular ANTI-chlorine fast . Finally, we vacuum the pool, rinse the filter, and let the filtration run for 24 hours until we get clear, clean water. You’ve already seen the steps to follow to clean stains along the waterline of your pool and get it ready for swimming season. But if you still have any questions, you can visit one of our Reindesa stores and we’ll advise you personally on your specific problem.
When your pool water is green… Reindesa Solutions (II)
Surely one of the clearest and most obvious signs of a problem with your pool is green water. But what should you do in this situation? Continuing with the Reindesa Solutions series, today we’ll explain what to do if you ever notice green water with green, brown, or black stains. The main cause of the problem is usually the presence of algae, hence the greenish color. However, although it may seem like a major setback due to its complexity, getting rid of green water in your pool isn’t as difficult as you might think. We will need to check 3 levels and act accordingly: The level of stabilizer (Isocyanuric Acid) in the water (stabilizer test strips). If the value is higher than 75 mg/l, we must drain part of the pool water. The pH level of the water. It should be controlled between 7.4 and 7.6. If it is not, we will use one of these two products: Acidpool Reindesa pH Reducer or Sodic Pool Reindesa pH Increaser . The chlorine level: If it’s correct, we’ll run the filtration 24h for two days, frequently cleaning the walls. If it is low on chlorine: we will carry out a shock treatment with Reindesa Granulated Choc Chlorine . And that’s it. Yes, your pool will regain its usual appearance: no more green water. Any questions? Visit one of our Reindesa stores or contact us with this or any other questions.

HEATING AND COOLING: What to do with the pool when the cold weather arrives?
We associate swimming pools with good weather, sunshine, and warmth—elements characteristic of summer or even the late spring months, which is when we usually take our dips. Because, who’s crazy enough to swim when it’s cold? If you want, you can be one of them. When winter arrives, what should you do with your swimming pool? As we mentioned in our previous post on this blog , you can put it in hibernation , but you can also continue to enjoy it. There are two possibilities for heating our swimming pools. 1. EXTENDED SEASON With a relatively small investment, we can extend our swimming season, maintaining temperatures of 28ºC from April to October. In this way, during periods of hot days and nighttime thermal inversion (ambient temperature below water temperature), we can maintain the water temperature above 25°C, preventing the pool water from cooling down during the night. 2. ALL YEAR ROUND With high-capacity heat pumps we can heat any indoor or outdoor pool all year round. Ways to heat our swimming pool HEAT PUMP: For this we use machines with the highest efficiency on the market, COP 1 to 5. For every kW of energy supplied, the heat pump returns 5 times that energy. HEAT EXCHANGER: We take advantage of an existing heat source (gas boiler, oil boiler, solar panels) to transmit heat through a heat exchanger to the pool water. ELECTRIC HEATER: Energy the least efficient, but in some cases it is recommended. If you are considering heating your swimming pool, we can carry out an economic and energy cost study without any obligation, based on the characteristics of your pool. Contact us with no obligation and no need to be cold!
HIBERNATION. What to do with the pool when the cold weather arrives?
With the arrival of autumn and especially winter, the cold begins to settle in, and of course, so does our swimming pool. Unless our pool is heated or we’re brave enough to enjoy freezing water, we’ll have to say goodbye to swimming season until the warmer weather returns. Now that the cold is upon us, we wonder: what to do with the pool during the winter? Today we’re going to suggest the best solution if we don’t want to swim during this entire period: winterizing the pool. What is hibernation? And why should we do it? Winterizing your pool involves adding a series of chemicals to preserve it in good condition during the winter season, so you can have it ready for the following swimming season. This process prevents the proliferation of algae and bacteria that would otherwise spoil the water. The benefits of this preservation technique are numerous, but we will summarize some of the most important ones: Simplicity : the application and use of hibernation products requires very little effort on our part, and they are also very easy to use. Savings : the pool water will last us several seasons and preparing the pool for the swimming season will be much cheaper. Clean appearance : the pool will be free of insects and algae, which are so annoying and characteristic of stagnant water. Damage prevention : Structural damage to the pool that could appear in case of draining (cracks, holes…) is avoided. When and how to winterize our pool? When the water in our pool drops to 15ºC, it will be time to start winterizing it. So, keep an eye on the thermometer! The steps we should follow are: First, we must thoroughly clean the pool (including the walls), either by using a pool cleaner or an automated robot. We will analyze the pH and adjust it between 7.2 and 7.6 (to avoid excessive disinfectant use). This process can be repeated periodically to prevent imbalances. We will do a shock chlorination – with dichlor or fast chlorine – to disinfect the water and prepare it to add the winterizer. We’ll let the filter run . We will clean the filter bed using FILTER CLEAN. Adding a FILTER CLEAN tablet to the pump’s pre-filter basket will disinfect the sand or glass in our filter. After 24 hours we will add the INVER-REIN product, leaving the filter running for 8 hours for proper distribution. We will clean the filter the next day. We will close the water returns and suction valves to let it rest. In case of extreme temperatures, we will add some type of floating material to prevent the water surface from freezing. Cover the pool to prevent leaves and debris from falling in . It is highly recommended to cover the pool with a tarp or winter cover. And that’s it? Almost. Halfway through the winter season, we’ll need to add the INVER-REIN product again. Now we just have to wait for the months to pass, and when the water temperature rises above 15ºC, good news! This will mean that the swimming season is approaching, and we’ll have to start with the usual water treatments. Pool disinfectant: water disinfection using chlorine
Today we’re going to explain different methods for disinfecting swimming pools . First of all, it’s important to understand that we shouldn’t confuse cleaning a pool with disinfecting it. In this sense, there are several ways to disinfect the pool: we can use active oxygen for pools , we can use bromine, through saline chlorination,… and with chlorine. Below, we show you one of the different types of pool disinfection: chlorine. Chlorine-based pool disinfectant: types and formats The fact: 90% of swimming pools are disinfected with chlorine . And there are two types of chlorine: dichlor and trichlor. Chlorine typology : 1) Dichlorine : This is used for shock treatments in swimming pools . The key is its speed of disinfection, as it dissolves and acts quickly. 2) Trichlor; it is more stable in pools and has a much longer lifespan. Unlike dichlor, trichlor is used for maintenance and not for shock treatments . Chlorine format: a) In granule/powder form : shock chlorine. Basically, dichlor is usually in granule and/or powder form since we are going to add it to the pool water. b) In granules and tablets : the tricoloro. We place the tablets in the skimmer so that they dissolve little by little. How much chlorine disinfectant is needed? The amount is determined by many factors: for example, the volume of the pool, the bathers, it depends on the water temperature, the hours of sunshine, etc. But basically, in the summer season for a 50m2 pool, you may need between 2 or 3 tablets per week . Pool Tips: How to measure and control pH and how to remove algae from your pool
We’ve launched our new website , and with it, new sections! We want to offer you a friendly and efficient service so you can easily resolve any questions you may have from the comfort of your home. To that end, we’ve launched a new section with tips on the care and maintenance of your swimming pool . We’ll be adding more advice to this section, so if you have any questions, please send them to us through our contact form . We’ll be happy to answer them. For now, you can check out the first two. In this post, we present two tips on pool care: How to control and measure the pH of water ? How to get rid of algae ? Anti-algae solution. Pool Tips 1: How to control the pH of pool water Next, we’ll explain how to control the pH level of your swimming pool . With over 45 years of experience in the pool construction and maintenance sector, we can explain three methods for pH control: First, there are the classic test strips. These are submerged in the water, and the color indicates the pH of the pool. Secondly, we have the FenolRed method. Many of you probably already know what we’re talking about, as most people have one at home. It’s a pH test kit ; you put a water sample in the pool, add 5 drops of FenolRed, and it will change color. You then compare this color to a color chart to identify the pool’s pH. There’s also a more sophisticated version of the same test kit: a tablet. This way, you avoid the hassle of using drops. Thirdly, we can use photometers . Those for personal use are the simplest; they only require immersion in water and will display the pH reading on their screen. As a last option, we find other more powerful photometers, but these are intended for large swimming pools and businesses. Pool Tip 2: How to remove algae from your pool We’ll explain the different types of algaecides available. Basically, for day-to-day pool maintenance, there are two main groups of algaecides: preventative treatments and shock treatments. Naturally, shock treatments are used once algae has already appeared in the pool. Preventative algaecides : in terms of quantity, we can find various formats such as 1 liter, 5 liters, etc. As for the solution, where the objective is to eliminate algae from swimming pools , it works by inhibiting phosphate in the water , which is the algae’s food source. Therefore, if there is no food, the algae cannot live. Shock Algae Treatment : If you already have an algae infestation in your pool, consider this. There are several types of algae, such as green, brown, and black, and there’s a product to treat and eliminate each type. In any case, we recommend that you purchase the appropriate and specific product. You can consult with your professional or with us: Reindesa, a Pool Construction Company.
Water treatment with reverse osmosis
Through reverse osmosis, we achieve a 90% reduction in water salts , as well as nitrates and organic matter, thanks to the filtration process using semipermeable membranes. The number of units required depends on the quality of the incoming water and the desired volume of purified water. Easy to maintain, these systems are installed directly at the point of use, whether for drinking or cooking, providing an inexhaustible source of health for your home. Pure water: Ideal for a healthy diet, for cooking all kinds of food, and for preparing drinks. It preserves all the flavor and quality of food. You can enjoy the true taste and aroma of coffee and teas. It is recommended for people with kidney stones or those following a specific diet, for cooking and washing fruit, and for making ice cubes.
Filter glass, the highest quality for your pool
The new proposal being introduced in our country is the advanced filtering medium filter glass , designed to replace filter-grade sand in pressure and gravity flow filters . Switching from sand to filter glass will improve the performance of the filtration system . Glass removes very small particles. Under controlled conditions, using sand at a flow rate of 10 m³/h/m², the sand removed approximately 90% of all particles down to 10 microns. Grade I filter glass, under the same conditions, reduced the particle size to 5 microns. In addition to removing solids through physical processes, it has a negative surface charge that allows it to remove very small particles and organic matter through surface adsorption (glass repels bacteria). Filter glass is excellent at removing positive ions such as those from iron and manganese. Sand’s performance deteriorates due to surface contamination. However, filter glass is largely self-sterilizing and can be cleaned with approximately 50% less water . For this reason, the lifespan of this system can encompass the life of the filter. Some benefits: It provides better water quality and clarity . It removes much smaller particles from the water compared to the equivalent grade of sand. Microscopic smooth surface , with catalytic properties of permanent self-sterilization and oxidation properties. Less likely to be contaminated by fats, lipids and biological growth. In chlorinated systems, the combined levels of chlorine are lower with filter glass and therefore less coagulant is needed . Easy to rinse , approximately 50% less water is used to clean the filter glass. Very high wear resistance . This product is very easy to use. It’s a direct replacement in all pressure or gravity flow sand filters . Simply remove the sand and replace it with the filter glass. Below is a presentation with more detailed information about the filtration process using filtered glass:

Construction process: Rustic style swimming pool
One of the projects we carried out last summer was this rustic-style swimming pool in a restored farmhouse integrated into the Empordà environment. It includes ornamental fountains with a circuit independent of the filtration system and remote-controlled operation. The disinfection system uses saline electrolysis with ORP and automatic pH control . It is finished with Reviglass Natura series mosaic tiles, Alpes model, and high-resistance two-component grout made with reactive epoxy resins. We’ve included the construction process below:
Treatment of swimming pools with ultraviolet radiation
Chlorine is the most well-known method for disinfecting our swimming pool, but is it the best option? Currently, we can find many alternatives such as bromine, oxygen, salt electrolysis , or ozone. At Reindesa , we propose an environmentally friendly treatment: ultraviolet radiation . Ultraviolet (UV) pool treatment is based on the disinfectant properties of ultraviolet radiation. Using a UV-C lamp with a wavelength of 253.7 nm , bacteria are eliminated from the water , as well as chloramines, compounds derived from chlorine and responsible for the characteristic “pool smell.” The disinfection process involves passing pre-filtered water through a chamber containing two ultraviolet lamps. The emitted UV rays affect the DNA of germs, viruses, bacteria, microbes, algae, and spores, destroying them in a short time. This system achieves complete disinfection of the water in a safe and efficient manner, while also providing excellent water quality and transparency . The main advantages of the treatment are: Obtaining fresh, clean and clear water . Efficient and safe water disinfection . UV-C light breaks down combined chlorine . Protection of the pool against pathogenic germs. Control of the formation of fungi , bacteria and algae. It avoids the smell of chlorine and skin and eye irritation (redness of the eyes). Reduction in the amount of water to be renewed. Reduction of up to 80% in the use of chlorine and other chemicals. It respects the environment compared to traditional methods.

BEHQ Water Analysis and Disinfection Course
Last Monday, Oscar Méndez from BEQH – a renowned company that manufactures chemical products and specialties for water treatment – gave a course on pool water treatment to the entire team of maintenance technicians and store staff of Reindesa. The course focused on presenting alternatives to traditional disinfection using chlorine tablets and on other more technical aspects such as the control and analysis of free chlorine, water hardness, alkalinity, cyanuric acid, copper and iron. Chlorine, while a traditional disinfection method, has its drawbacks. At Reindesa, we believe it’s important to go a step further and explore healthier alternatives while also avoiding unnecessary water consumption. If you are also interested, you can contact us and we will inform you of all the possibilities. Oscar Méndez teaching the course to our team members

Do you already know how to keep your pool at low temperatures?
Although we know that having breakfast above a pool might sound strange but appealing, after a sub-zero weekend and your calls asking us what to do to avoid freezing, here are three tips to help you keep it active: – Do not stop the circuit: Activate the filtration every two hours to prevent the water from standing still and freezing in the pipes. – Break the surface layer of ice to prevent the thickness from expanding and breaking the mosaic tiles or cracking the pool. – Leave some floating element in the pool (tires were used in the past, but floats, polystyrene or cork also work) to absorb the expansion of the ice. We hope we’ve answered your questions, and remember that in these situations it’s important to keep children away. If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us; we’ll get back to you as soon as possible! Picture by Jaume Sala at Sant Feliu de Codines via 324
Sand pool
We present one of Reindesa‘s projects based on one of the latest and most original concepts: swimming pool with a sand finish The construction process is the same as that of a traditional swimming pool, giving it a rounded, edgeless appearance that simulates beach sand, with the added benefit of being highly non-slip. The surface finish is done on-site with a compound of sand and fixing resins that adhere to the concrete, giving the feeling of having the beach in your garden. Below you will find a series of photographs showing the construction process:
Reindesa and ATEP
Reindesa has been a long-standing member of ATEP, the Spanish Association of Swimming Pool and Sports Facility Manufacturers and Technicians, for over 25 years. As the industry’s employers’ association, it defends the interests of companies before private entities and public bodies, with the aim of significantly influencing all legislation, decrees, regulations, and agreements that affect the sector. ATEP brings together nearly 300 companies in the Spanish swimming pool sector, from builders and manufacturers to engineering and management firms. Reindesa, as in previous years, continues to be a member of the association and enjoys all its services.
Pool covers
Do you know how to care for your pool year-round? Installing a pool cover is the best way to cover, protect, heat, and maintain your pool throughout all seasons. In addition to helping preserve water quality, it offers significant safety advantages, preventing accidents with children or pets, saving water and reducing the cost of chemicals related to evaporation, as well as requiring less maintenance (algae, filters, dirt, or pH imbalance). Ultimately, it’s a long-term investment that will extend the life of your pool. Choosing the perfect tire depends on each user’s preferences. Below, we simplify the process with a list of different tire types and their features: Surface Coverings This is the most basic cover model. It’s installed manually, by stretching the fabric a few centimeters above the water level, and helps protect the pool from the elements. Automatic Floating Slatted Covers They are characterized by their comfort and design, float on the water, and are easily retracted or extended thanks to their built-in motorized reel. It’s as easy as turning a key that will do the work for you. – Submerged: If you’re looking for perfect harmony with the surroundings, this cover model is designed to achieve this, with the roller mechanism and cover housed inside the pool. Ideal for newly built pools. – External rolling: A simpler solution, easy to install and ideal for existing pools with the rolling axle located outside the pool and the convenience of an automatic cover. Raised Decks If you’re someone who likes to enjoy your pool 365 days a year, we recommend installing a raised pool enclosure. Modular design and comfort are two of its key features, creating a separate area in the garden with a microclimate around the pool. You can enjoy a relaxing atmosphere with the perfect temperature for those who get cold easily. Request a free quote.
The benefits of the Spa
Stress, a concept that emerged in the 1950s, is now one of the most prevalent disorders in today’s society. The hectic pace of life and the pressures it entails have increased its prevalence. Hydrotherapy is one of the options, with centuries of tradition, that helps combat it. The heat, buoyancy, and massage are the perfect source of relaxation and provide health benefits. Using a spa with hydrotherapy reduces stress, headaches and sleep disorders, decreases muscle and joint tension, relieves arthritis pain, stimulates the circulatory system, improves cardiovascular activity and also makes you feel much better both inside and out. This beneficial therapeutic effect is not immediate; it is recommended to perform sessions regularly, preferably daily, with progressive growth until reaching 15-20 minutes at a temperature between 35 and 37ºC and maintaining a relaxed posture. An investment in your health with guaranteed benefits. Don’t you think it’s time to learn to disconnect and find some time to take care of yourself? The sustainable pool
At Reindesa we are aware of the importance of preserving the environment and that is why we are concerned about sustainability applied to the swimming pool. If you’re like us and committed to the environment, here are some tips for equipping your pool in an eco-friendly way: the key is good resource optimization.
Mosaic tile with pearlescent colors
Choosing the right mosaic tiles is crucial for achieving the perfect finish for a swimming pool, as the interior finish and the coping or terrace will completely define the pool’s final style. The wide variety of colors, materials, and textures makes it a challenging task. If you find yourself at that moment, we suggest choosing one of the mosaic tiles that is currently most successful: The mosaic tile with pearlescent tones. This innovative trend in pool tiles is available in several sizes, 2.5 x 2.5 cm and 1.2 x 1.2 cm, and in more than 20 different colors, all featuring a special shimmer that plays with the movement of the water. The effect is reminiscent of the crystal-clear waters of the Caribbean, which shimmer with tiny flashes of light. Reindesa In this project, a Reviglass Giava reference mosaic tile was used, with 10% of the pieces having a pearlescent finish. The manufacturer allows us to add any percentage of pearlescent finished pieces to any of the mosaic tile models in their catalog.
WINTERIZING THE POOL
WHAT IS POOL WINTERIZATION AND WHAT DOES IT INVOLVE? DIFFERENCES, ADVANTAGES AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, GREAT COST SAVINGS. The summer season has come to an end and cooler weather is becoming the norm. It’s a good time to start what’s known as winterizing the pool. WHAT IS WINTERING AND HOW IS IT APPLIED? Winterizing involves preparing our facilities and applying products to the pool to preserve its properties and reduce maintenance and start-up costs for the following season. There are two important advantages: firstly, by preparing our facilities, we protect them from the risks of winter and inactivity; and secondly, in these times, water is a scarce resource that we shouldn’t waste.
